1251 Avenue of the Americas rises 54 stories to 750 feet in Rockefeller Center. Developed by The Rockefeller Group, the building has been a showcase of quality design and sophisticated operation since its opening in 1972. In 1989, Mitsui Fudosan embarked on a multi-year renovation program to take the building into the 21st century and to better serve its corporate and institutional tenants. An extensive lobby renovation in the early 1990s introduced custom-designed lighting, terrazzo floor accents, and specially commissioned stained-glass artwork crowning the 30-foot-tall windows, and a 100-foot-long black granite concierge desk. |

New custom-designed elevator cabs and entrances complement the new lobby. Elevator response time was improved through new digital controllers. Scores of functional upgrades and improvements have been completed in the building since the early 1990s. |
